KOLKATA: Health and emotional issues, along with factors like spouse's attitude towards their career and relationship with colleagues, can impact the productivity of Indian professionals at the workplace, says a recent study.
The study, conducted by TeamLease Services across key cities in India, enlisted various personal attributes that affect productivity at workplace, and how professionals feel about the same.
Even gossip mongers have a negative impact at workplace and affect. More than 40% of the respondents believe that working with the opposite sex does not affect productivity, while another 47% feel that work is not affected by marital status.
Be that as it may, Gen Y professionals still ranks salary as the most important factor affecting workplace productivity. Almost 80% of the respondents say their workplace productivity is most impacted by their salary in relation to experience.
The study also gives city-wise response of professionals on productivity.
In Bangalore and Chennai, professionals rated marital status as the most important factor affecting productivity followed by health issues. However, health issue has been rated as the most dominating factor affecting productivity of professionals in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. Mumbai is less concerned about relationship-based attributes, so it is in Pune.
In New Delhi, almost 86% of the professionals felt that average or simple looking people are more hardworking than those having good looks. Whereas in Hyderabad, almost three-fourth of the respondents said that working with opposite sex affects their productivity.
