Mr. AishweryaRastogi holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Banking & Finance from NationalInstitute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune and has an experience of over 6 yearsworking in the Financial domain, particularly Risk Management and AssetLiability Management (ALM). He has worked in diverse, multi-cultural teams,initially at Bank of Maharashtra and now Genpact, supporting processes for oneof the largest multi nationals. Aishwerya also has a significant amount ofInternational exposure having worked on site for more than a year.

At a career seminar held in IIJT (Indian Institute of Job Training), Bangalore, Vikram Bapat , Executive Director-Tax & Regulatory Services, Pricewaterhouse Coopers tried to create awareness about the profession of Accountancy. He has around 21 years of experience in the industry with 18 years of experience in tax.

Accountancy has the potential to become a great career option for any one who is genuinely interested in the subject. Vikram Bapat gave instances from his life as examples to the students so that they could relate in a better way. According to him the scope for accountants was limited in the initial days when the economy was closed. It was only in the late eighty's and the early ninety's that things began to change. Vikram became a qualified accountant in 1989. Like any other fresh graduate he too was confused about his career options but he always wanted to be a part of the industry.

Primarily there are two options available for a commerce graduate. He/she can go for CA or for an MBA programme. MBA has various divisions based on the subjects or the specialization one choose. Also, the institute in which one applies for the programme also matters a lot.

Whereas after doing your CA there are three options available for a student.  He can go for Audit, Tax profession or as an adviser. Finance has thus got plenty of opportunities today.

IIJT Career Seminars, delivered through satellite every Saturday is our endeavour to bring to our students real time industry overview and exposure.  At IIJT we work at the bottom of the pyramid with students who don’t have many sources of inspiration, guidance or opportunity and the purpose of Career Seminars is to reach out and provide for such students.  

We realize that the biggest challenge for students, particularly for those in small cities is their ability to visualize what is possible with their lives. Their opening balance (geographic, social and financial) limits their access to opportunities. Anything we say or do is not as effective as putting role models with real success in real companies in front of them.

As students and professionals, many of us can recall the impact of teachers who changed our lives -not by what they taught us - but how they made us feel about ourselves and our future. The IIJT Career seminars aim to provide to our students such teachers and role models who come to them as their coach to guide them on this most important aspect of their lives at this stage – their career.
